Auto-change AM to PM when needed
Let’s assume that it’s 7am now.
I’ve been writing emails using the Mac Mail software with MailButler and setting them to send later at 8:02 am after my employees logon. So the Send Later default time in the dialog is Today, 8:02 AM.
Now I want to set up an email to send at 4pm today. I click the Send Later button and I’m excited to see that the “8” in 8:02 AM is highlighted, so it’s very easy for me to just start typing. So I type “4.” But nothing happens. What? Is my keyboard broken? Is Send Later broken? No, it’s that Send Later isn’t allowing me to type a time in the past, and since changing the 8 to a 4 would make it 4:02 AM, and that’s in the past, I can’t do it. But I get no error. There’s no error tone; there’s no message. It just acts like something broken. I was initially confused.
Note that if I keep trying to type 4 (“Come on computer, type that 4!”) then I get an error tone. It seems to give me an error tone every 2nd unallowed keystroke. Not sure if that’s intentional or not.
To fix my situation, I need to tab over to AM, change it to PM, and reverse-tab back to the 8 and now I can change it to a 4.
This is not a huge workaround, but I wanted to suggest considering some alternatives like:
A) I type 4, and the AM auto-changes to PM and maybe the AM/PM field flashes slightly to remind me something changed.
- or
B) I type 4, and it lets me, but the time changes to red and a small clickable error appears that says “In the past - click to make PM”
I’d prefer A, but this may lead to other errors down the road.
